Did you know that using Hanson brick and tile can help you to earn points in the United States Green Building Council's LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-New Construction) and the National Association of Home Builders' National Green Building Standard?
Both programs reward the use of regionally produced materials in order to increase demand for regionally produced materials and avoid unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions resulting from long-distance transport. Because Hanson's plants are located throughout the U.S. and Canada, our brick and roof tile could help you boost your point totals in these programs.
Here's how it works:
LEED-NC:
Materials qualify for one or two points based on the following formula: LEED-NC deems materials regional if they are shipped to project sites within 500 miles of the manufacturing and extraction facility. The program takes into account all materials delivered to the project site and the percentage of each material (based on cost) that is regional in content. If the total average is more than 10 percent, you score one point; an average over 20 percent scores two points.
Because of the location of our many plants, Hanson's clay and limestone brick and concrete roof tile are intrinsically local building materials made from raw ingredients found naturally throughout North America. Very often our products are close to 100 percent regional, and can be helpful in boosting your average percentage.
NGBS:
Materials qualify for up to three points as Indigenous Materials (NGBS 609) if they are sourced from within 300 miles if shipped by road or 1,000 miles if shipped by rail to the project site.
